The Master Plan & Implementation Strategy has helped to shape the existing trail network and associated infrastructure. It has provided the vision for the following works and installations:
1. A complete new system-wide signage program to assist in visitor way-finding and interpretation of local culture, history, and attractions.
2. Two new steel pedestrian bridges spanning the Corner Brook Stream. One in the downtown (Brook Street), and another in the remote reaches of the upper stream area. These bridges add tremendously to trail navigation, safety, and maintenance activities.
3. A “Gateway Plaza” at the port to welcome cruise ship passengers and other visitors to the City along with the connecting walking trail to direct walking visitors safely into the downtown and the rest of the trail network.
4. The Rotary Centennial Park in the downtown serves as a beautiful landscaped rest area and an informative trailhead access point for further exploration of the stream-side trails.
5. The “Three Bear Mountain” trail on the hills behind West Street is one of the networks most popular spots for visitors to the city. It has some of the most spectacular viewpoints available overlooking the city and the adjacent Bay of Islands.
6. System-wide improvements to trail surfaces, footbridges, boardwalks, staircases, etc. along with new rest areas, garbage receptacles, doggy bag dispensers, and planting beds have improved accessibility, aesthetics, and general enjoyment of the trail network overall.
